Commission meetings and hearings

No open meetings were scheduled this week. The executive session scheduled for November 8 was canceled.

Advisory Opinions

Advisory Opinion Request 2018-15 (Wyden). On November 7, the Commission made public a comment on the request.

Administrative Fines

The Commission made public six closed cases, as follows. For more information, see the case documents in the Enforcement Query System.

AF 3355

America Comes First PAC and David W. Schamens, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $15,594.

AF 3356

Liberty Action Group and Joey Cammer, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed no civil penalty.

AF 3357

Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee and Dave Kunes, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $4,961.

AF 3358

Roza Calderon for Congress 2018 and Michael Wiliams, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $1,200.

AF 3359

Taylor Griffin for Congress and Taylor Griffin, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission took no further action and assessed no civil penalty.

AF 3366

Jill Stein for President and Steven Welzer, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $2,700.

Litigation

  • McChesney v. FEC (Case No. 17-1179) On November 7, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit issued a Mandate.

Outreach

  • On November 5, Vice Chair Ellen L. Weintraub met with the Australian Electoral Commissioner to discuss campaign finance law and FEC operations. Also on November 5, Vice Chair Weintraub discussed campaign finance law and the role of the Commission with two groups of professionals from Argentina. The meetings were sponsored by the Electoral Transparency for Latin America and Center for American Studies Foundation.
  • On November 7-9, Vice Chair Weintraub participated in the XIII Inter-American Meeting of Electoral Authorities in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The event was sponsored by the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO) of the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy (SSD) of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Federal Elections 2016: Election Results for the U.S. President, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives is available. The data was compiled from the official vote totals published by state election offices. To order a printed copy, please contact the FEC’s Public Records Office at 800/424-9530 (option 2) or 202/694-1120, or send an email to pubrec@fec.gov.

The Combined Federal State Disclosure and Election Directory is available. This publication identifies the federal and state agencies responsible for the disclosure of campaign finances, lobbying, personal finances, public financing, candidates on the ballot, election results, spending on state initiatives and other financial filings.

The FEC Record is available as a continuously updated online news source.
