Advisory opinions

Advisory Opinion Request 2018-05 (CaringCent, LLC)

On March 23, the Commission made public Advisory Opinion Request 2018-05. The requestor asks several questions about its proposal to provide contribution processing and forwarding services to political committees.

Litigation

CREW, et al. v. FEC (Case No. 16-cv-2255 (CRC)). 

On March 20, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia issued a Memorandum Opinion and Order denying the Commission’s motion for summary judgment and granting the Plaintiffs’ cross-motion for summary judgment. The Court concluded that the dismissal of CREW’s complaint against the American Action Network in MUR 6589R was contrary to law, remanded the matter to the agency and directed the Commission to conform with the Court’s opinion within 30 days.

Rulemaking and agency procedures

Petition for rulemaking; notification of availability

On March 21, the Commission published for public comment in the Federal Register a Petition for Rulemaking that asks the Commission to revise and amend the existing rules concerning the personal use of campaign funds, specifically to clarify the application of those rules to former candidates and officeholders. Comments must be submitted on or before May 21, 2018.

The 2018 Congressional Primary Election Dates list is available.

Federal Elections 2016: Election Results for the U.S. President, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives is available. The data was compiled from the official vote totals published by state election offices.

The 2017 edition of the Combined Federal State Disclosure and Election Directory is available. This publication identifies the federal and state agencies responsible for the disclosure of campaign finances, lobbying, personal finances, public financing, candidates on the ballot, election results, spending on state initiatives and other financial filings.

The FEC Record is available as a continuously updated online news source.
