Enforcement

MUR 7049  

• COMPLAINANT: Jed Whittaker
  
• RESPONDENTS: Alaska Democratic Party and Carolyn Covington, in her official capacity as treasurer (ADP); Margaret Stock; and Margaret for Alaska and Tim Pearson, in his official capacity as treasurer (the Committee)  
  
• SUBJECT: The complaint alleged that the Committee failed to file disclosure reports. A supplemental complaint alleged that the ADP improperly shared its voter database with the Committee. Stock was a 2016 candidate for Alaska’s United States Senate seat.
  
• DISPOSITION: The Commission found no reason to believe the Committee failed to file required disclosure reports because the Committee met all of its reporting deadlines. Given the unique circumstances of this matter, and in consideration of agency priorities, the Commission exercised its prosecutorial discretion and dismissed the allegation pertaining to the respondents’ failure to disclose transactions related to the Committee’s use of ADP’s voter database.

• Rodini for Supervisor 2016. On January 16, Vice Chair Caroline C. Hunter and Commissioners Lee E. Goodman and Matthew S. Petersen issued a Statement of Reasons.
  

Litigation

• CREW, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:18-cv-00076). On January 12, Plaintiffs filed their Complaint for Injunctive and Declaratory Relief in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
  
• Doe, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:17-cv-02694-ABJ). On January 17, the Commission filed its Memorandum in Opposition to Motion to Intervene by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and Anne Weismann, and the Plaintiffs filed their Memorandum in Opposition, in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. On January 18, the Commission filed its Surreply in Response to Plaintiffs’ Reply Memorandum in Support of Their Motion for a Preliminary Injunction.
  
• FEC v. Johnson, et al. (Case 2:15-cv-00439-DB). On January 12, Defendant John Swallow filed his Opposition to the FEC’s Cross-Motion in the United States District Court for the District of Utah, Central Division.

• On January 16, Vice Chair Weintraub discussed campaign finance law with the President of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, and high-ranking officials from the Brazilian government.
  
• On January 17, Campaign Finance Analyst Josh Rebollozo discussed the role and work of the Commission with students from the College of Idaho.

Federal Elections 2016: Election Results for the U.S. President, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives is available. The data was compiled from the official vote totals published by state election offices.

The 2017 edition of the Combined Federal State Disclosure and Election Directory is available. This publication identifies the federal and state agencies responsible for the disclosure of campaign finances, lobbying, personal finances, public financing, candidates on the ballot, election results, spending on state initiatives and other financial filings.

The FEC Record is available as a continuously updated online news source.
