Contributions to candidates in special elections

June 26, 2023

The limits on contributions to candidates apply separately to each federal election in which the candidate participates. A special primary and special general election, for example, are each considered a separate election with a separate limit. When reporting contributions made in connection with a special election, be sure to check the appropriate box for type of election and indicate that it is a special election (e.g., “2023 special primary” or “2023 special general,” as appropriate). Please visit our website for additional information on current special elections.
