Special election contributions

April 23, 2019

The limits on contributions to candidates apply separately to each federal election in which the candidate participates, including any special elections. In fact, a special election itself may involve separate primary, general and/or runoff elections, each with a separate contribution limit.

When reporting contributions made in connection with 2019 special elections, be sure to check the appropriate box for the type of election, and indicate that it is a special election (e.g., "2019 special primary," "2019 special general" or "2019 special runoff”).
