Reporting contributions for caucuses and conventions

October 28, 2019

House and Senate candidates may accept contributions for each election in which they participate. Some states hold caucuses or conventions in lieu of traditional primary elections to nominate federal candidates. In those states—which include Connecticut, Utah and Virginia—the caucus or convention counts as a separate election.

Contributions to a candidate participating in one of these caucuses or conventions must be reported as designated to that election. If a committee erroneously reports a caucus/convention contribution as a primary contribution, the committee must amend the report.
