Do I have to file a pre-general report?

October 16, 2018

If you are a monthly filer* or an authorized committee of a candidate in the 2018 general election, the answer is automatically YES. If you are a quarterly-filing PAC or party committee, you must file a pre-general report only if your committee made contributions or expenditures in connection with the general election between October 1 and October 17, 2018.

The pre-general report is due Thursday, October 25. If sent by registered or certified mail, the pre-general must be postmarked on or before October 22. If using overnight mail, the delivery service must receive the report on or before October 22. Please visit our 2018 reporting dates webpage for more information on filing pre-general reports.

Staff in the Reports Analysis Division and Electronic Filing Office will be available until 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 25 to answer questions regarding the content and filing of reports. To reach RAD, call 1-800-424-9530 (press 5) or 202-694-1130. For help with technical issues relating to electronic filing, dial the same toll-free number and press 4. The E-Filing Office can also be reached locally at 202-694-1307.

* Please note that monthly-filing PACs/party committees also must file their regular monthly report covering September by Saturday, October 20.
