FEC Names Tony Baptiste Acting Inspector General

WASHINGTON — The Federal Election Commission has named Tony Baptiste as Acting Inspector General.

Mr. Baptiste will join the Commission from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), where he has worked since 2000, with a six-month tour in the OIG of the U.S. International Trade Commission. Altogether, he has worked in OIG offices for 19 years.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Baptiste to the FEC to serve in the acting inspector general role,” Chair Ellen L. Weintraub said. “We look forward to working with him and drawing upon his deep expertise.”

Mr. Baptiste’s previous OIG assignments included managing the first financial statement audit at the CFTC and the first financial audit of CFTC Consumer Protection Fund, safeguarding over $200 million in CFTC collections from judicial sanctions, and participating in employee investigations within the federal government sector. In the private sector, he served as a Bank Examiner at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and other assignments at financial services firms.

Mr. Baptiste earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Boston College, Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, and Masters in Public Administration from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School.

His appointment is effective May 28.
