FEC names Christopher Skinner Inspector General

WASHINGTON—The Federal Election Commission today announced the appointment of Christopher L. Skinner as the agency’s new Inspector General.

Mr. Skinner brings 10 years of Inspector General experience, including conducting investigations, inspections, and internal audits. He has worked as Deputy Inspector General for the Office of Naval Research (ONR) for six years, including a year as Acting Inspector General for the ONR. Prior to that appointment, Mr. Skinner worked as Assistant Chief of Inspections for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

“We are delighted to welcome Chris Skinner to the Federal Election Commission,” Chair Ellen L. Weintraub said. “Chris has a strong track record of promoting institutional integrity and we look forward to his leadership and oversight.”

The Commission would like to thank the Acting Inspector General, Tony Baptiste, who was temporarily designated to serve in this role in May 2019 while the Commission conducted an open search for a permanent hire. Before joining the Commission, Mr. Baptiste worked in the Office of the Inspector General at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Mr. Skinner holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Radford University. He has also completed a leadership program at the Office of Personnel Management Federal Executive Institute.

Mr. Skinner will join the Commission on August 5.
