  • Tips for Treasurers

Summertime means picnics, parades and… door-to-door canvassing!

July 9, 2018

If your committee’s canvassing activities include distributing election-related literature (for example, handbills, slate cards, yard signs), be sure the literature includes the appropriate “paid for by” disclaimer.

However, not all campaign materials need a disclaimer. A disclaimer is not required if it can’t be conveniently printed (for example, on pens, bumper stickers, buttons and similar small items) or when its display is not practicable (such as on clothing, water towers and skywriting).

Please visit our disclaimers web page for more information on the disclaimer requirements. If you have questions, please call 800-424-9530 (select option 6) or email us at info@fec.gov.
