District court issues opinion in CREW v. FEC

February 22, 2017

WASHINGTON – The United States District Court for the District of Columbia issued a Memorandum Opinion and Order today in Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:15-cv-02038-RC), granting the Commission’s motion for summary judgment and denying the plaintiffs’ motion for summary judgment. The plaintiffs had challenged the Commission’s dismissal of CREW's administrative complaint against the Commission on Hope, Growth and Opportunity in Matter Under Review 6471 as arbitrary, capricious, an abuse of discretion and contrary to law.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
